    try this:

To resolve this behavior, reset the default sort order:
Right-click Start, click Explore, and then click drive C.
On the View menu, click Details.
Click the Name column to sort items by name, press and hold down the CTRL key, and then quit Windows Explorer by clicking Close in the upper-right corner of the screen.
    Release the CTRL key.
    Restart your computer.

This is not a PS thing, it's a Windows feature.

In the file/open dialog, just click on the heading of the column you want to sort on - like the filename. Click again to reverse the sort order.

    That works everywhere in Windows.

Tried that: the browser window is perfectly sorted. It's the File>Open window that comes out random. It's only on the one computer in a network. The others are all OK. But thanks anyway.Cliff Moore

    Waterrat,

At the bottom of the browser window you can click on one of the little triangles there and select the desired sort order there.

    Photoshop files suddenly random. Help!

My adobe Pagemaker 7 and Photoshop 7 files have suddenly stopped being alphabetized and are randomly sorted, for some odd reason. When I look in Windows Explorer, all the files are correctly ordered, as is the case in WORD, etc. Also the folders are in correct order, but not the idividual files. This has happened w/in the last few weeks and is making me nuts. The files aren't even listed in chronological order, but randomly. Is there a way to re-sort them alphabetically? A million thanks in advance. BTW, I'm running WIN XP, 512M RAM, 10G available HD. Cliff Moore
