"next window" and "previous window" keyboard shortcuts - Adobe Illustrator Windows

I can't for the life of me locate the keyboard shortcuts for "next window" or "previous window" in Illustrator CS. I'm stuck with mousing up to the window menu when I change docs. Are there shortcuts? (There don't seem to be.) And ... can I modify them in Edit, Keyboard Shortcuts? (I'd love to have the same shortcut for this in PS, ILL, and ID. I've got 2 out of 3!) thanks in advance, a....

Ctrl+F6 will toggle among open doents, if that's what you mean. This is a Windows rather than an Illustrator thing, so the bad news is you can't modify the shortcut in AI and the good news is it should work in all applications.

Yes, I am after a shortcut to toggle between open doents, but I'm hoping to be able to assign my own, as I can in I.D. and Photoshop.

Ctrl-F6 is a very awkward shortcut (two-handed); it's easier to mouse to the window menu.

InDesign, for example, offers the windows standard shortcut you gave, plus the somewhat difficult Ctrl-tilde. I was able to add "Ctrl-Tab" -- which is the standard in Photoshop CS and Acrobat, at least under Windows.

Can I make Illustrator CS join the club?

In AI 10, Ctrl+Tab toggles between the selection tool and the direct selection tool. It is not one of the shortcuts that can be re-assigned.

I do not know whether this behavior is different in AI 11 (CS).

Welcome to Adobe's interpretation of "consistent interface among applications."

If you think you might use more Alt+ and Ctrl+ function key shortcuts if only they didn't require digital gymnastics, you might consider a keyboard with the F-keys in two columns on the left side as with the original IBM PC keyboard.
