Nikon 400mm F5.6 AF lens??? - Photography

    Any explanations why Nikon doesn't have this lens in their lineup? The lack of
    this lens is a huge reason why I'm considering switching to Canon equipment.

    One reason might be that you can obtain the same effect in several
    other ways:

    80-400mm f/4-5.6 VR lens used at 400mm
    80-200mm f/2.8 AF-S lens at 200mm + TC-20E teleconverter
    70-200mm f/2.8 AF-S VR G lens at 200mm + TC-20E
    300mm f/4 AF-S lens + TC-14E teleconverter (yields 420mm f/5.6)

    So perhaps the question is why you want a 400 f/5.6 when you have
    all of those other alternative possibilities available.

    Hmm, maybe I ought to try to get a TC-14E then. Just seems a natural to me to
    have that lens in the lineup.

    My Nikon handbook says the Nikkor 400mm f 5.6 EDIF lens, designed in 1978,
    is still in production......
