I have the Nikkor AF-S 12~24mm f4 G IF DX and I'm very happy with it so far.
You can see a series of shots taken with this lens on a Fuji FinePix S2 Pro

Wow, no flare with direct sun, think I'll get one and skip my14mm,
even if it means loosing one f.stop. Impressive pictures.

Yes the lens is a DX (digital) model, but seems to work okay without
aperture priorty mode available on my older Nikon F70 film camera. In
program mode the camera defaults the lens to f8, but it is adjustable using
the thumbwheel control on the camera body from f4 to f22. AF works okay too
on the F70 and the minumum focal length the lens can be set to before
vignetting occurs is about 17mm on the F70.

I paid AU$2200 for the lens which is about AU$400 below Nikon's rrp at the
time of its initial release here in Australia. It performs very well on the
Fuji FinePix S2 Pro DSLR. I've yet to have the film processed from the F70.
I'll post a comment back here later if anyone is interested.

    Cheers,
    Alan

As mikey2 <mikey2this_newsgroup> so eloquently put:
[] If you had to limit yourself to 2 lenses for travel, what would you
    [] choose?
    []
    [] Right now, I have a 28-85 f/3.5-4.5 and an 80-200 f/2.8 that also are
[] used on an N90 body.
    []
[] With the 1.5x factor for the D100, I have been thinking maybe a
[] shorter, faster zoom would be useful.

I would not bring the 80-200 (I have one too) unless I was sure I
    would need it.

    In general, I would bring:

    1) one general and mild zoom. My favorite there is the 35-70mm
f2.8. This is a sharp lens that covers normal (not wide or tele)
coverage (since 1.5 on the D100 means that 35mm being equivalent to
about 50mm), but also covers portrait modes (70mm being equivalent to
105mm). Your 28-85mm covers this, but is a slower lens.

    2) a wide angle. I would carry my 14mm (being equivalent to 21mm).

Tommy looks like he's definitely ready for the Joint Chiefs. :)
You've developed a fine site, sharing your experience and offering useful
advice on the basics of photography.

Actually he's retiring to spend time with family, he came up through the
ranks of enlisted men and 35+ years is enough for anyone in uniform.
General Abizaid, his deputy made fourth star ten minutes before those shots
were taken. I have two more events to attend.
And thank you for your kind words..
    (B>)# I wish you well.....
