Nikon FE-2 and SB-28 - Photography

Questions: 1. Can an SB-28 be used in TTL mode wtih the FE-2. If yes, do you put the FE2 in Auto mode or do you select the shutter speed of lets say 60th for indoor shots. (I am not talking about fill flash). 2. Does the ASA setting on the SB-28 matter. 3. Am I correct in matching the SB-28 f indicator with the fstop on the lens for proper TTL function. Default Nikon FE-2 and SB-28

    Questions:

    1. Can an SB-28 be used in TTL mode wtih the FE-2. If yes, do you put
the FE2 in Auto mode or do you select the shutter speed of lets say
60th for indoor shots. (I am not talking about fill flash).

    2. Does the ASA setting on the SB-28 matter.

    3. Am I correct in matching the SB-28 f indicator with the fstop on
the lens for proper TTL function.

I noticed that when I shoot indoors with average lit room, the flash
fires at full power in TTL even at f4 with 400ASA film. Something is
    not right.

    thanx for your help.

The SB-28 should work with the FE-2. Set the FE-2 to Auto. With the
SB-28 set to TTL and turned on you should get a ready light in the
FE-2 finder and the shutter speed should go to 250 automatically. You
can also set the FE-2 to 250 or slower manually. The SB-28 ASA and f
settings should not matter. You might try to borrow another TTL flash
like an SB-15 or a Sunpak 433D/Nikon to make sure the FE-2's TTL
    circuit is working.

If the FE2 is working correctly, in aperture priority AE mode the
camera should retain exactly the same shutter speed as for ambient
light, unless that is over 1/250 sec in which case it will be reduced
    to 1/250 sec.

Otherwise, how would daylight balanced fill flash be possible at
    speeds other than 1/250 sec?

It was the daylight fill flash feature that persuaded me (in 1986) to
buy my FE2. It remains not only one of the best Nikon SLR bodies I
have ever used (together with the F4) but it is one of the best SLR
bodies I have ever used - regardless of brand.

It is my impression that the FE-2 automatic switches to 1/250 on A and
manual set of longer exposure times than 1/250 when a TTL flash is
attached. The F4 selects from 1/60 to 1/250 on A when a TTL flash is
attached. But I don't think the FE-2 supports this function. I may have a
bad memory.....it is a long time since I read the inscturction manual for
    the FE-2 :-)
