I didn't see much that was f/2.8 and faster (pro grade) and you should
likely have looked for Nikon rather than Nikkor.

The point was simply that while there are new Canon lenses available
(all grades) the well was sort of dry for pro grade ones.

I want to stay with Nikon: though I am concerned about Nikon's future
    - and as an extension my investment in glass.

Well, obviously there are other viewpoints. My wife has been a Canon user
when she was a press photographer, carried it over into her free lance and
converted to digital, first with the D30, then D60. She looked at and
tested the 10d, the D100 and the Fuji S2. Since she does free lance digital
work for a pro lab, she had seen all the files, D1 series, D30, D60, D100
and S2. She chose the Fuji S2 for the pictures it took instead of the frame
of the 10d. I still shoot with a D1 and she bought me a Fuji S2 in a fit of
exuberance. I still use the devil out of my D1 even knowing that I will
have to do post image processing to a much greater amount than with the S1.

If you want to see new lenses, look at what probably will be coming soon
from Nikon. The 24-120 VR is out, the 12-24 is out, rumors of a 10mm, great
AFS lenses out, great pro level lenses out and readily available used or
    new.

I think you need to fill your needs not some idea of what you need. There
are things in Canon I like, the 300mm F4 for instance. There are things
from Nikon I like, 80-200mm 2.8 of any vintage, tons of pro lenses ranging
from 1.4s to 2.8 zooms. There are things I like from Fuji---the S2 guts are
the best imaging equipment I have seen including the megabucks 1ds, D1-X. I
guess if you have the need for rugged equipment, you should not be looking
at the D100, S2 or even 10d and should confine your looks to the 1d, 1ds,
D1x, D1h or the new D2H coming soon.

Personally, when I shot film I had an F5 and F4s. Used the F4s more than
the F5 even though many said the F5 was better and it was in many ways. But
it did not fit my needs or my perceived wants as well as the F4s. I use the
D1 because of familiarity but no question that the little polycarbonate Fuji
    S2 gives better images.

I am not worried about Nikon. These things are cyclical and if we change
everytime someone comes out with a little better product, the camera
industry will become like the new car industry much quicker than it is now
    becoming.

Do you know something about a "D2H" that the rest of us should know?

    Compare an EOS-1V and a F5.

The S2 Pro has an excellent reputation among photographers and it isn't
    very expensive (relatively speaking).

You prefer bodies to lenses, then?

    No.

Both Nikon and Canon will be around for the foreseeable future.

I heard the same thing yesterday from a local camera shop. The D2H is coming
    soon.

The D1H successor has 4 megapixels and the same
sensor size as the D1/D1X/D1H, shipping Q4/2003.

The *really* interesting Nikon DSLR will be the
    D1X successor ...
