no available system font problem
I've read the postings from last year and earlier this year and wondered if there was any more news on the touchup text editing problem?
Today I made a pdf from a Quark 6.5 file using Acrobat 7.0.8. The client then made a minor change (deleting a word, no other change) which I tried to do on the pdf using the touchup text tool, but without any success. This message came up:
"All or part of the selection has no available system font. You cannot add or delete text using the currently selected font."
The font is on the computer and was loaded via Suitcase before I opened Acrobat.
Using Touchup properties, I can change any font property other than the font.

Re: no available system font problem
Hi:
I came into the forum today to specifically look up this issue and to see if Acrobat 8 has fixed this problem. Anybody know?
Her is a link to one of the previous postings:

Re: no available system font problem
Be aware that Acrobat actually compares the embedded font data with the font on the computer to ensure a match - it's NOT just the name.
So if the client used a Type 1 font, but you have the TrueType - it won't match.
If you have version 1 and the client used version 2 of the font - it won't match.
etc...
It MUST be the SAME FONT.

Leonard:
Please take the time to go through the referenced link to the previous posting on this issue. Reference my posting of 11:11am Sep 19, 05 PST (#32 of 65).
You will see I said I even went so far to dig out the installation disk and found the sample PDF titled, "TouchUp.pdf"and it didn't let me embed a change there either. On the PC it does work, only on a MAC have I had the issue.

Re: no available system font problem
That tells me that the PC had the correct font installed but the Mac did not.
Try this test instead...
Create a PDF yourself with embedded fonts. Now try to touch it up. Guess what - it will work correctly, because you have the matching font.

Re: no available system font problem
Hi Leonard,
Thanks for the trys, but believe me I have tried all that.
Even the simplest file with the word "TEST" on the page done in Geneva and Times will not let me edit without the dreaded message you received John refer to.
You might also want to refer to the comenets by Sandee Cohen and John Werner in the post I have linked to as well.

Re: no available system font problem
I've now been through several steps suggested by Adobe, but to no avail. They have now sent me a link to troubleshooting font problems, but I've not had the time to work through it yet. They are saying it is a system fault, but I'm not convinced. I have no font problem in any other application.
I did try several things including switching off Suitcase and putting the fonts in the system folder... and it made no difference.
I never had this problem with earlier versions of Suitcase.

Re: no available system font problem
I'm not running Suitcase at all. Just Font Book. In case this helps.
AGAIN, this occurs on the simplest of files that I can generate with just the word "test", using any of the basic system fonts. (YES, the fonts are embedded, before anyone asks).
If anyone looks thoroughly at the previous thread they will see it happens to more than John and myself.
I will just keep bracing myself that the text edit tool really won't help me on my MAC . . . only on a PC in my fellow worker's next office.

No available system font problem
Leonard, Leonard, Leonard ... All you're telling us is that "for legal and technical reasons our software doesn't work". How do we make it work. Please, Leonard. Pretty please.
