No image preview in Import dialog
When opening/importing a graphic with FH MX, the "Preview" area in the
Open/Import dialog does not show the image, regardless of type.
Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

Re: No image preview in Import dialog
What's your platform and OS? What file types?
I'm seeing previews in column view in Mac OS 10.3 and 10.3.1.

Re: No image preview in Import dialog
Hi Judy
I am using Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 1. Pentium 4 - 2.4GHz, 512 MB RAM.
The "Preview" panel does not display any image, regardless of file type -
..jpg; .gif; .tif; .png; .bmp etc etc. See screen grab at
www.koalas.net/fhimport.jpg.
The only files which display are existing FH documents.

Re: No image preview in Import dialog
This is "as designed". The preview field only displays the preview for FH
files.
On Windows, if you need previews of other formats, you simply change the
view mode for the dialog to Preview. This is a standard Windows function,
not a special FH thing, and there is a button in the dialog to do this. With
all versions of FH/Win and any other Win app that uses "standard" file
dialogs, this mode will display the previews for any file type that the OS
understands. By default, most versions of Windows understand most bitmap
formats. FH uses standard system dialogs for all of its file Open, Save,
Import, Export, ... dialogs so this function is always available. FHMX also
supports resizing these dialogs so that this view mode is more useful.
When FHMX is installed, an OS extension is installed that adds preveiw
support for FH files (9-11); FH10 did similar although support is for
FH8-10. This OS extension functions in any application that uses the
standard system file dialogs, not just FH, and works in Explorer/My
Computer.

Re: No image preview in Import dialog
Thanks David
I'm aware of the "Thumbnails" view in Windows, but I prefer to use "List"
view :)
Macromedia make much of their MX products having a common UI - I quote from
the website:
"Other consistent user-interface elements make your job easier when working
within FreeHand MX—as well as other Macromedia MX applications."
Why, then, does the file preview work fine in Fireworks MX, but not in
Freehand MX?
See www.koalas.net/fwimport.jpg for an example compared to
