No tools available when creating a custom symbol palette
I have created a custom symbol palette which I use in many different files. Unfortunately the palette tools which are normally at the bottom of a symbols palette are not there (such as "replace symbol", "break link", "delete symbol", etc.) Any way to make these tools available? I am working in AI 10 & Windows XP.
Thanks,
Scott

Re: No tools available when creating a custom symbol palette
Scott:
When you open the new palette, you can place, replace or break link to a symbol instance by selecting one of the symbols in the new palette, and using the toolbar on the original palette to perform the action with.
Conversely, you can of course select all symbols on the new palette, and use the flyout on the new palette to choose "add to symbols" to throw them all into the default palette.
Conversely, when you click on a symbol in the new palette, it will automatically shift its butt over into the default palette.
Lastly, you could add the symbols as described above, and save the empty file as your default CMYK or RGB file, after which (and after closing Illustrator and restarting it) each new file you create will have all those symbols in it.
Hope this helps.
Bert
By the way, the Illustrator startup files (blank documents) are found in C:\Program Files\adobe\Illustrator 10.0.3\Plug-ins.

Re: No tools available when creating a custom symbol palette
Also, if you'd like to use a certain set of symbols for Client A, and a different set for Client B, consider setting up a blank document for each, loading the Symbols palette with that client's custom collection, and saving it as a template (.ait file) into your Templates folder. Then when you start a new job for Client A, you would open New from Template, and the dialog will take you straight to the Templates folder. Opening a template brings up a new, untitled document, with all the items you need for Client A.

Thanks for both of your suggestions. Looks like you have solved my problem.
