NO Trial version of Acrobat for Mac Users...
I spent the time registering then navigating through the store trying to find a Trial download of the Acrobat Pro 8 application.
After wasting a nice piece of my day and not finding it, I started a live chat. The sales person confirmed that there was not a Trial download for Mac users and then recommended that I just buy it anyway without a trial.
With that kind of logic, why offer a trial for any platform?

Welcome to Adobe.com! My name is Marcel. May I assist you with your selection today?
Visitor: Hello
Marcel: Hello there.
Visitor: I am having trouble finding the latest version of Acrobat for the Mac platform.
Visitor: I have both PPC and Intel systems
Marcel: I can certainly help you with that.
Marcel: The latest version is Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional.
Marcel: It helps you to create PDF documemetns with one-button, you can easily create Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, files into PDF formets. Version 7 enhances Acrobat's links to Microsoft Office applications, including the ability to convert Outlook e-mail messages or entire Outlook folders into PDFs.
Visitor: Ok, How do I download the trial of that or purchase it from the store, since everywhere on the store site it says "Platform Windows"
Visitor: <http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/tryout.html>
Marcel: Sure, I can forward you the link.
Marcel: Please stay online while I check that for you.
Visitor: <http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=acrobat_pro&loc=en>
Visitor: The pull down only offers Windows versions in various languages.
Marcel: Thank you for staying online.
Marcel: Yes you are right, the download version is only available for Windows.
Marcel: However, you may be able to purchase it for Mac.
Marcel: Do you use any of the Acrobat earlier version?
Visitor: Not on the Mac platform.
Visitor: I have Reader 8 now on this system (PPC).
Visitor: Why is the download not available for the Mac?
Marcel: Well, I do not have the information why it is not available for Mac.
Marcel: The full version for Mac platform can be purchased.
Marcel: Since you already have them in PC version, there is no need for you to get the trail version.
Visitor: I do not have Acrobt Pro 8 on the PC.
Visitor: I have Acrobat 6
Visitor: I was considering an upgrade.
Visitor: So I wanted to try 8 to see if it was worth the cost.
Visitor: I do not have a PC now.
Marcel: You can get the download version immediately.
Marcel: Oh okay, why don't you get it updated into Acrobat 8.
Marcel: You can download the upgrade the version for just $159.00.
Visitor: Why have a trial for windows then?
Visitor: Just tell customers to buy it without trying it...
Marcel: I do understand that. Let me assure you that the new version has got some additional effective tools.
Marcel: I am sure that, you are satisfied with your experience with Acrobat 6, aren't you?
Visitor: Nevermind, I thought I would get some help with support as a Mac user, but I guess that Adobe does not consider the Mac community worth the effort of providing a trial version.
Visitor: i will take my money elsewhere.
Visitor: Have a good day.
Marcel: I can understand your concern, I will make a note this in our blogs.
Marcel: Hopefully, we will provide more support for Mac users as well.
Visitor: Me too.
Marcel: Do you have any question that I can answer you?
Visitor: No
Marcel: Thank you for visiting Adobe.com today! Please visit our online store again anytime.

Frustrated... and NOT impressed.
I will not buy Acrobat 8 Pro until I try it. And based on how I feel as a user of the Mac platform, probably not at all.

You can buy and try it for 30 days, return it if you're not completely satisfied. There never has been a trial version for the Mac.

Re: NO Trial version of Acrobat for Mac Users...
Why has there never been a trial version?
Many other vendors MUCH less the size offer mac trial versions.
And there are Windows Trials... so WHY?
I am not going to spend over $600 for my two Mac systems (Intel and PPC) without trying the application on each arch. first.
It seems odd to me that Adobe who has a Large Mac user base, does not provide a Trial version to download beside the Windows Trial Downloads. They even have Windows trials in 4 languages, but not a single Mac trial.
If never have, never will is the answer, then so be it.

Re: NO Trial version of Acrobat for Mac Users...
Why has there never been a trial version?
Cost most likely. Acrobat on the Mac is a very small market. I keep asking for a try and buy version, so maybe someday...

Re: NO Trial version of Acrobat for Mac Users...
Mark, thanks for the dialog.
Cost might be it, but offering a single file to be downloaded by a "small market" of users won't kill Adobe on bandwidth and they don't have to make any additional product packages, etc.
Offering 4 language versions for Windows and not a single Mac version does not do much for encouraging the Mac community to give Acrobat a try.
Things are changing, and with the release of Vista I think we will see more PC users making the move to the OS X platform.
I say it is about time Adobe get on the ball and reach out to the new users. Carrot and Stick still works. And if a user adopts one vendor's product, there are good odds that they will use other products from the same vendor.
Well, back to "Preview" and Folder Action Scripts.

thank you for placing this exchange on line ...
i hope adobe is watching and reading ...
i spent 2000+ dollars on the cs 2 w/studio 8 and have had no
satisfaction when i call adobe
i am trying to figure the app out on my own...
and the joke is my question is specific... what application do i open
a fillable form in on a mac platform to edit it...
but when i call adobe they ask what application am i calling about ...
i say i dont know what application i am calling about because i dont
know what application i need to use ...
and that sets us off into a circle of despair...
so being the ever resourceful guy i am and as i traveled across the
stae of california in my westfalia with my new 17" macbookpro in hand
i thought why not drop by adobe in san jose and ask one of the many
geeks assembled there
i find the adobe head quarters and am turn into the drive... at the
entrance to the carpark the attendant stops me
asks ... who is your appointment with...
i say i dont know because i have to speak to someone about exactly
what my problem is before i know who i am going to talk to
he says i must turn away and mot make further advances unless i know
exactly who i am scheduled to see...
sigh ... i should have known the mantra would be thus....
and all this stems from the fact that adobe did not make an mac app
for Design... the form creation program used on windows platforms...
and all of this of course does not make sense because mac is the
industry standard in the publishing world ...
i am almost thinking that there is some sort of conspiracy between MS
and Adobe ... to route mac ...
sigh ... after spending so much i will soilder on ... but disapointed
for sure ...
i have a customer number for my problem and the only solution offered
by the adobe rep before he ended the call was that i did not have
permissions for the form ...
well golly gee ... if only i had of thought to give my self permission
when i created it ...
i just dont like the visuals on the windows platform ... thats all ...
mac is much nicer ...
anyway thanks for posting your experiance...
some how it gives me courage that i am not alone in my frustration
with the joke that is called adobe customer service
yours
