No Wireless File-sharing - Mac Networking

I've been wrestling with wireless file-sharing on a D-Link wireless router (DI 524). If I hard wire the the router to a PB running Mac OS 10.2.8, file-sharing is fine... a Mac OS 8.6 computer is set up as the server and the PB can find it OK, mount its hd and move files. If I remove the cable and turn on Airport, the PB connects to the router but the server cannot be found. For a couple of weeks I had a similar Linksys router installed that did the above with a wireless connection so I know the setup ...

For a couple of weeks I had a similar Linksys router installed that did
the above with a wireless connection so I know the setup should work.
What I don't know is whether the problem lies in the computer settings
or the D-Link settings... maybe both.

Interesting... the wireless connection is able to print via the print
server connected to one of the D-Link ports.

Anyone have any ideas... or maybe even knows what the solution is to
getting the 802.11g (or even 802.11b) talking to LAN? TIA... Jim

    Jim-

The obvious question is whether you are using AppleShare for file sharing or
not. As far as I know, D-Link does not support AppleTalk. (DWL-810+ and
    DWL-900AP+ definitely do not.)

If that is your problem, you may find a solution by setting up IP addresses in
your choosers when AppleShare is selected. I don't recall how that is done,
but the Mac's Help may give an example you can follow.

If my assumption is correct, you are sending wireless print jobs to the print
server's IP address rather than using AppleTalk.

not in Mac OS 10.2.8. One Mac OS 8.6 machine can see the other Mac OS
8.6 machine which are connected to the D-Link 514 and AppleTalk IS
turned on... they won't see each other without it. The PB running Mac OS
10.2.8 CAN see the other computers IF the ethernet cable is plugged into
the PB, which also has AppleTalk turned on. If I remove the ethernet
cable and try to connect to the LAN with a wireless connection, the PB
    cannot find the other computers.

So far... I have not tried connecting to the print server from the Mac
    OS 8.6 machines.

Yes, my wireless print jobs are going to the IP address via
    gimp-print.... Jim
