Noisy Quicksilver in OS9 but quiet in OSX - has Apple done this deliberately? - Mac Applications & Software

My new G4 1.25Mhx not dual, OS9 is so noisy with the fan revving up and
down, but OSX is much quieter. Why is this?

This is the first thing I noticed about our MDD G4s.
Apple is totally silent on this question, g4noise.com don't seem to have
    pushed the issue...

Note that if you qualified for the PSU fan change kit, that was only a
hardware swap, no change to the control s/w. Sure there was a firmware
upgrade which "addressed" the issue. Ours already had this installed.
AFAIK it simply reduced the "hunting" rate to perhaps a third.

My guess is it's the Power Management software which also controls the
fan speeds with feedback from cpu and psu thermal probes. Sorry if
you've seen me say this before, but it should be relatively simple to
patch the OS9 PM to avoid
    a) the rapid hunting of fan speed, and
    b) the ~15 hertz pulses leaking into the og audio

    Why hasn't anybody done this?
Because the cure is simple: upgrade to OS-X

Yeah, we waited because we had Digidesign ProTools. Now we're waiting
for our Plugins to get X-native...

Thanks for info. How do I know if I qualify for a new power hardware
upgrade. The Mac is only 4 days old. And the firmware upgrade is
    presumably on Apple's site yes??
