Default non kde settings?

Hi to everybody,

i've just installed kubuntu 5.10, after a period of mandriva. I'm unable to
find the system settings...while in mandriva i've a menu with the hardware
settings, monitor resolution, kdm config, here i can't find how configure
this settings (not-kde control center)

tnx in advance,

Have you tried running the traditional kde control center, kcontrol?
Hit Alt-F2 and type kcontrol.

That's strange - you don't get a window up with various categories like
Personal, Hardware, Internet and Network and System settings? Because
that's what I get when I click on KMenu-System Settings.....

yes, i've this categories, but if i click one of these i find the same
setting of kcontrol..so, for example, i can't find the settings about my
monitor resolution...where you find it? it's possible that i've any packets
missing?

I think i know what you mean.
You mean the GUI where you can stop/start services, configure servers,
configure firewall and so? Like this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Drakconf-10_0.png
That's drakconf, a mdk program written in perl for system management.
SuSe has something like this too i thought.
No such thing in (k)ubuntu as far as i know.(correct me if i'm wrong)
Anyway, I prefer using the command line to change those settings.
But i agree it sometimes can be a handy tool.

KMenu-System Settings and go to the System Administration category. That
does all that as well.

Yes that's strange, on my Toshiba laptop I find:

Hardware
Keyboard - Mouse - Joystick - Printers - Screen -
Energy - Remote control - Digital camera

(Translated from Dutch)

The screen section allows for example changing resolution and gamma
correction.
