non-root users able to view win98 drives - Linux Setup, Configuration & Administration

Can anyone give me specifics on mounting win98 drives so they can be seen by users that are non root. Currently, only root has execute privs on the drives. My fstab shows /dev/hda6 /fat-e vfat defaults 1 1 which gives me drwxr--r-- 15 root root 4096 Dec 31 1969 fat-e/ I have changed various switches in fstab to rw, owner etc with no luck, it still only gives normal users read permissions. The underlining driectory has execute privs on it....

    Add the options (in place of "defaults"):

    umask=022

    to give all users execute access but only root write access, or

    umask=002,gid=<number>

    to additionally give all members of the specified group write access.

    The permissions on the underlying (underlining??) directory are not
    relevant.

    Replace that final "1" with "0" too. Linux can't fsck fat filesystems
    and that will cause a boot failure.

    Use the umask parameter to set the permissions on files and directories
    on your windows partition. Check the mount man page for more
    information.

    Thanks for the the reply. I found the same solution you gave which works, a
    while after posting, with the exception of the last switch needing the
    change.

    Thanks
