Norton, Quark and Illustrator
We are having problems with these three applications working well on the same system in OS X. Here is the quote from my user:
"I'm noticing some funky font problems on my computer. Some letters are getting cut off in Quark. Also, when I copy and paste something
from illustrator to Photoshop words get cut off. So if I convert them to outline before I copy and paste, it still gets cut off but then the outlines are all messed up. I tried disabling Norton and that hasn't helped. I've never had this happen before. I was thinking about restarting my computer with it disabled but then I remembered that it automatically starts up again."
None of this happened until we put Norton Anti-virus 9.0 on this MAC. Are there any none compatibility issues between Norton, Quark and Adobe products? This is affecting the productivity of our graphic designer.
I would like to get this resolved as soon as possible. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

First off...explain why you think you need Norton AntiVirus.

Kill Norton. it was great for the classic OS. It's not the same product under OSX.

Re: Norton, Quark and Illustrator
In spite of what some people say, there are still virsues out there for MACs. Besides we are on a corporate network and we exchange files frequently with outside vendors and we don't want to run the risk of infecting anyone. And if MACs don't need to be protected, then why to the two top anti-virsus scanning software companies make versions for MACs?

Name them. Now, tell me how many of them you've gotten that have interrupted your workflow.
Outside of the AutoStart 9805 Worm, which I don't think will even execute under OS X; under classic, the AutoStart worm and its variants can be easily eradicated with one of several free, very reliable and small-in-file-size standalone utilities. In the case of any very rare MS Word executable scripts, I'd suggest scanning Word files only on a case-by-case basis.
And if you're worried about passing along viral packages through email because you're using Outlook, Outlook Express or Entourage, you (or your company) can blame only yourself.
Move to Mozilla. Get rid of NAV. It's caused countless numbers of Mac-users untold numbers of problems.
(((BTW...It's Mac—not MAC. MAC (all capitals) means something else entirely in computer jargon)))

Re: Norton, Quark and Illustrator
I've read users here that are having good luck with Virex Anti Virus. We've always used Virex in my department for our Mac's, but when I got my new G-4 OS 9.1 (I think) a couple years ago, it wouldn't run Virex, so I soley switched to Norton.
So when I switch to OSX, I'll be going back to Virex. But I haven't caught any viruses trying to worm through since I first stared 6 years ago. My home PC on the other hand gets one everyother week it seems. But we have teenagers at home.

Re: Norton, Quark and Illustrator
Virex is the best. version 7.2 is the latest that is reliable.
they just released version 7.5 beta. I recommend not using this as it seems to cause Adobe software to act badly. I endded up removing the beta and reinstalling 7.2 everything went back to normal.
