My problem is exactly the same as what has been described here except that once
a page is being edited, they get the "Contribute could not connect because the
server is down or not accepting connections" message when they try to Cancel or
    Publish the page.

We are editing the site with 3 different computers, two of them MAC OS X and
one of them Windows XP. Only the Windows computer seems to have a problem
    publishing the files.

    sparkelements,

I had the same error message with one of my clients. Turns out she can edit
from her home connection (cable), but not from work (dialup). Seems Contribute
is timing out while awaiting the connection to be established. I am now
looking to see if anyone knows if there is an option for slower connection
    speeds.

Hm, the computer we are having problems with connects with the same high speed
connection that the two Mac computers are connected to (they are all on the
same network). So I don't think that being on a dial-up connection has anything
    to do with our problem.

    Any other suggestions?

We need to get this solved ASAP. I think it's ridiculous that Macromedia is
going to try to charge $100 to give me an answer as to why there's a problem
with their software. We have not changed computers, network settings, of
servers, yet all of a sudden we're getting problems on just the Windows Machine
(two other Macs on the same network, accessing the same FTP server work
perfectly fine). The problem is exactly as outlined above. I've seen many
people who have had this same problem post here, but have not seen any answer
as to why this would happen.

Does anyone have any insight into this?

    Hi cahcott61

You hit the button on this.

I have rarely had a reply to my questions and really don't expect one in my
last posting. Clearly they are all related problems somehow.

There should be a moderator on this site to deal with unresolved isssues. Just
look at the list and "no replys." I don't know whether experienced people have
time or want to help ,but we all seem to be floundering when it comes to these
technical issues. When I did get a moderator about a year ago, it wasn't
useful advice or not explained to me why he wanted information that I was not
prepard to giveon the forum. Later as I became more experience I realised what
he wanted and why but it wasn't explained in a helpful way.
I just wonder if the list realises that all these postings come up on the
browser when you check search engine results. Perhaps this is the reason more
experienced people do not want to post their adddress.
Note the number of "send private message". Is this the reason do you think??

I updated to Mac OS X Tiger and can no longer Edit my pages . It cant get past
the "creating a draft of page". At this point the whole Application stops
responding and needs to be Force Quit.
Ive upgraded to Contibute 3.1 but still no go.
Anyone else having problems since Tiger instal?

I too have 3 Windows XP users of contribute 2 in a school that suddenly "can't
find server or it's not accepting connections". Nothing has changed with any of
our configurations and I can still access from home and work. We've checked
all our connectionso n our ftp server, recreated users, etc.... to no avail.
Hope someone comes up with a solution soon. Just when I get them all trained to
    edit their pages....frustrating.

    ax2-
yeah, upgraded to Tiger this weekend. When I opened Contribute this morning my
dotMac site was not listed (no sites were listed along the left pane).
I figured the info was lost during the upgrade (fair enough) and went to
    establish a new connection.
for the server I entered homepage.mac.com
selected FTP as the interface and used my mac ID and password but the
    connection attempt timed out.
I came to the forum to ask someone to refresh my memory as to what server to
use for dotMac, and how we connect (FTP, SFTP, etc)
I'll check the pref's file and keep at it.
    hope I get lucky

    Hi

I am also stuck. Can someone please help

i changed hosting site and cant get into new host. 100 emails later still
cant connect via Contribute. Yet I can connect to my old server (free and wont
ever disconect). Howwever there is nothing in contribute because I got rid of
all information.I was able to download through Cute 7 using new hosting
configurations. now i cant even get into their site which is an ordinary
internet address.. So there is no problem with the company.. I hae tried
everything from ringing old provider, microsoft and they all say the problem is
    with Contribute.

If you get private messages for this problem can you pass them on please. it
is not good enough that macromedia are not watching this site. I am using
    Contribute 2.Cheers

I started this thread back in January and I haven't yet found an answer. If
anyone does know how to solve the problem, I'd love to know. I did think about
buying a 'bronze' incident support ticket. But here in the UK this costs 250UKP
(about $500). The absence of any reponses from Marcromedia to the very
frustrated level of posts on this thread makes me think they don't know the
answer. Otherwise, why not let us all in on the secret?

Not sure if any of it is helpful (not very computer savvy) and I just

I am getting similar reports form clients using Contribute (version 2 and 3). I
have to say this is not up to Macromedia standards; I am of the view Contribute
should still be in beta. We have halted recommending it to new clients until
    it's more bullet proof.

I tried those links that Joe suggested but ended up just going over old ground.
The point is that everything was working fine, way after I - and my clients -
upgraded to Contribute 3. And then suddenly Contribute stopped accepting
connections. I checked the server and all the settings - but nothing had
    changed.

Then after about 4-5 weeks - when I was beginning to despair of ever figuring
it out - Contribute started working again. But I now have no faith in the
product. And every morning I expect to find frstrated emails from my clients
telling me that it's fallen over again.

It's a great pity because it has the potential to be a great little program -
but I'm steering well clear of ever recommending it again to my clients. It's
just not worth the grief when it can fall over so easily. Especially since
Macromedia seems to have no interest in solving the problem.

I also have the same problems, I was made to look a right c***, when it
constantly came up with the problem.

Once I close down and restart Contribute it's if fine again for one more page
    edit.

    Not acceptable Macromedia.

    Default not accepting connections

having ENORMOUS issues...isn't this suppose to be easy!

I either can't connect and get the error "Contribute could not connect because
the server is down or not accepting connections. Contact your administrator" I
    am administering this site...ugh.

Or I make changes, publish them and when I go to the site to look at it...its
    a blank page...no code.

    any suggestions?
