How large is your VM swapfile? Did you put the swapfile on a separate partition?

No I only have one partition. I don't know how large it is. How do you tell?

How do you tell?
Control Panel>System applet> Performance Tab> Virtual Memory
Tells you if A) you are letting Windows manage your swapfile (recommended) and B) what size it is.

Windows is set to control the swap file size and the only number showing says "27384 mg free".

Do you have plenty of free disk space?
Have you tried deleting the Prefs file?
