Notepad equivalent in OSX? - Mac Applications & Software

Just starting to enjoy OSX but miss the simple and elegant notepad. Can someone point me towards a replacement? Thank you, Dan...

    Just starting to enjoy OSX but miss the simple and elegant notepad. Can

    I agree, TextEdit is a very good app, and is very well featured for a
    free text editor. It is possible to carry out basic word processing
    tasks with it, or indeed use it as a plain text editor.

    Seeing as I haven't used Win NotePad, no. But then I didn't really use
    Mac Notepad much either.

    I'm using MacJournal as my notepad replacement as well.
