Now I've got Panther and AI CS, & I can't get the colors right on my DesignJet!

Default Now I've got Panther and AI CS, & I can't get the colors right on my DesignJet!

I've been printing for years out of AI 8/9 on my Mac G3/G4's, and using the color profiles for the HP 2500CP DesignJet all my colors came out fine. I had Illustrator set on Emulate AI6, and blacks were really black and PMS colors (for the most part) were really PMS colors.

What the hell do I have to do (setting wise, profile wise, etc.) to just get the right colors to send to my printer now, with My Panther OS G5 and Illustrator CS? My company doesn't seem to know, I spent and hour with our tech support and in the end even they admitted they didn't know what to do. They told me to use US Prepress Defaults in settings, but past that they had no idea what to do to make actual colors come out of the DesignJet. What am I missing?

I've received jobs from several of our other stores that have the DesignJet 5000, and they are all having the same problems, the blacks come out light, blues are more purple, etc.. I thought they were crazy till I got my new system and found out Illustrator had changed ALL of the print dialogue settings (and messed up the print boundary box, which can now somehow exist outside of the document boundary box AND they took away the "use page setup" check box in the document setup window, which has me totally screwed up), to the point where I can't even figure out what's going to the printer any more! I have to run all of our inkjet jobs from my old Mac which, of course, means exporting everything down to AI9 and sending it across the network, then re-setting up all the print options, etc..

    Help!

Well if you want it to work the same way as it did before then work with the older system. But if you want to work with the new system and things do not work exactly the same way then you might want to look at the help.

Now open the print dialog and you will notice there are options for things like General , Set Up (you know like Page Set Up), Color Management, Graphics etc.

You'll notice there are all sorts of pull downs and boxes and fill in fields.

You will also see at the bottom of the print dialog there is several buttons like Page Setup (hmmm…that one sounds familiar) Printer, Settings etc.

Why no one responded to you is that you obviously said to yourself this is different and then did nothing about using you mental capacity to do something about figuring out what was different.

If you and your tech people figure some of this out many of us have learnt that it is a bottomless pit trying to assist someone with this type of query.

Figure it out and get back to us with specific questions then maybe some one can assist you.

I'm going to get some breakfast this has made hungry! Coffee too!
