Default Numerous Acrobat 8 problems

    We have been having a number of problems with the software in the CS3 Design Premium. Our users were previously using CS2 Design (Standard and Premium), and they have been updated to CS3 (CS2 is still being retained until we know all of the kinks with CS3 are worked out).

    All computers are running on PowerPC Macs (iMac G5s, PowerMac G5s, PowerBook), running Mac OS 10.4. They work as standard users (non-admins).

    Here are a list of problems we've encountered so far.

    1) For at least one person, Acrobat 8 (and Distiller) crashes when started. From what I've read about, this may be related to the self-healing issues?

    2) Acrobat 7 will not launch without admin rights. We've seen this problem many, many times. I've followed the instructions here (http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bbede30), but nothing there has helped.

    3) Acrobat 8 won't print more than one page. If a 4 page document is printed, only the first page prints. This is printing to an HP 4650 color LaserJet. Printing from Mac OS X's Preview works just fine, so this is certainly an issue with Acrobat.

    I'd certainly appreciate if anyone has some suggestions on clearing up these problems. Thanks.

    Unfortunately, as I mentioned in another post, I am not even able to upgrade Acrobat for some crazy reason. The Adobe Updater doesn't post any updates for Acrobat, and even after downloading the Acrobat 8.1.2 patch updater, it acts like Acrobat 8 doesn't exist. So, at this point, I can't even update Acrobat.

    I have tried launching Acrobat 8 on two different accounts, and Acrobat crashes on both of them. The program doesn't even launch entirely.

    Even after reinstalling just Acrobat 8, it still crashes.

    Updating Acrobat need to be done in order. 8.0.0>8.1.0>8.1.1>8.1.2 You cannot just run the 8.1.2 updater.

    Thanks, that did the trick. I find it somewhat odd that Adobe doesn't seem to offer a combo updater, so I could just make the jump from 8.0 to 8.1.2. Even odder is that Adobe's own updating service didn't find updates for Acrobat.

    The good news is, Acrobat Pro is now updated to version 8.1.2. The bad news is, Acrobat still crashes when trying to launch.

    Here is another post I've made on these forums with other problems I've experienced so far:

    <http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b5e008>

    I also uninstalled Acrobat 8 and reinstalled it to see if that would fix the problem. It didn't. :(

    We still have Acrobat 7 on the computer still. Would removing it help at all? I do not want to remove Acrobat 7 if that works still, and Acrobat 8 still won't if v. 7 has been removed.

    It seems that this issue was caused by a corrupt preference file. We emptied out the old preference files (there were a number of them existing), and Acrobat 8 finally launches...for now!
