Nvidia drivers leave a black margin - Ubuntu

I installed the nvidia driver, and my screen shows up a 1-2cm black margin at the right. This margin was not shown when using the default 'nv' device. Resolution has been kept the same and also the monitor configuration. The LCD monitor auto-adjusts the screen size to fill the screen, so i can't do it manually. I am not on the computer with the problem so i can't send the xorg.conf. any ideas? alex....

Open a terminal or console and type xvidtune this allows you to move the
screen around. Test it often and you can apply the change and then change it
    again.

    I got this message:

Warning: Color name "black" is not defined
Xlib: extension "XFree86-VidModeExtension" missing on display ":0.0".
Unable to query video extension version

    i think i should add this extension to xorg.conf but i can't see a
    webpage refering to it.

i executed xvidtune as normal user (not root)
