Object size / dimensions change
Am I missing something here or does Illustrator work on some internal grid system that is incompatible with real-world measurement systems like millimetres? If I add a rectangle and enter the dimensions (in the transform palette) as 10mm x 10mm Illustrator then changes these figures to read "10.0001 x 10.0001mm". If I attempt to draw 10mm square by carefully snapping to the millimetre gridlines I get the dimensions 10.0001 x 9.9999. This is driving me insane!
(note : I've set up an A4 page, set measurements to millimetres, set a grid size to 10mm with 10 subdivisions (i.e. gridline every millimetre) and am being very careful to make sure everything snaps exactly - so what's wrong? Does Illustrator just not work in Metric? )

Re: Object size / dimensions change
Illustrator uses points to measure everything. All items drawn are saved with points defining their dimensions and positions. Illustrator will use a conversion to show you information in whatever units you like, or to convert units you type into points. Some rounding occurs when the millimetres are converted to points. This accounts for the change from 10.00 millimeters to 10.0001 millimeters.

Re: Object size / dimensions change
Andrew I have the same exact problem!! It's very stressful and disappointing specially when designing things that need very specific measurements.
Scott your answer is very educational thank you! But, we still haven't solved the issue ( it seems ) hahahaha.
Anyone has solved this dilemma? or are we damned?
