We have all outgrown flashing cursors and blinking text on web sites, and these
are rarely used now, mainly because they were amateurish and obnoxiously
distracting.

We are not having to deal with the majority of sites that sell ad space on
their web sites to advertisers that don't seem to realize that too much flash
is so distracting to have a negative effect, both to the web site, and to the
advertiser.

I am talking about those flashing and dramatic motion ads that after showing
their 10 seconds of pure magic, loop over and over repeating the same thing.
They are great for an initial look, but so distracting that it is hard to read
the "text" that is usually wrapping itself around these ad spaces sold on
"information" web sites.

I enjoy these creative ads but only for a short while. I see no reason why we
have to endure the same slashy attraction repeating endlessly while we try to
concentrate on the pages content.

My short term solution has been to disable the Shockwave Flash object in the
browser. However, I think there is a better solution, and I propose this for
discussion:

Allow a Flash manager user option that will prevent a flash content from
looping over and over. Once is quit enough for any ad. Or, allow the user to
disable activity on a flash window after "x" seconds.

This type of user control will allow me to enjoy some advertisers creative
effort without it becoming so annoying to drive me off the web page.

Any thoughts?
