OCR totally messes up document? Acrobat 8
I don't understand this, and I am looking for insight, because I can't believe that Acrobat is supposed to work like this!
I scan a document and save it as a multipage pdf. I then open it in Acrobat 8 for Macintosh and run "Recognize text with OCR". The resulting document is completely messed up--some images are duplicated, some pages are cut off at the bottom, but looks like a 5-year-old went after it with scissors and a xerox machine!
I have had similar issues with text-only scans (paragraphs being removed from the file), but with a text-and-pictures document it is really odd.
Any thoughts?
TIA
Alan

Re: OCR totally messes up document? Acrobat 8
Try to set the PDF output style to Seachable Image (Exact). Remember
the purpose is to create a searchable pdf file, i f you want a
general ocr program then that is what you should purchase, Acrobat's
OCR capability is limited.

Re: OCR totally messes up document? Acrobat 8
I've had a similar problem, and it's infuriating. I didn't have this problem under Acrobat 7 with my Mac, and I don't think the appropriate solution to a broken piece of software is to buy another piece of software. Is this just a bug that Adobe will hopefully fix soon?

Re: OCR totally messes up document? Acrobat 8
I'm not familiar with Acrobat 7, but as was stated above, setting "Seachable Image (exact)" seems to work around the problem. It would seem to me that this should be the default setting, not the "Searchable Image" setting.
