ODBC\JDBC on same server
We are building a new Windows server. One of the ColdFusion (MX 7) Admins
created a slew of DSNs but when I looked for them I couldn't find a single
one. I thought maybe he had forgotten to create them. It turns out that, using
CF, he created JDBC "connectoids" whereas the normal Windows tools (under
Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Source (ODBC)) only
shows ODBC connectoids. This division is not very good from an Administraive
perspective.
Are there any Windows tools that show both JDBC and ODBC connectoids on a
single server?
TIA,
Bill

Re: ODBC\JDBC on same server
No such tool. They are from different worlds. ODBC is Microsoft proprietary,
JDBC does the same thing but is all Java based. ODBC dsn's are setup at the
Windows level, JDBC datasource's are setup at the Application (in our case
CMFX7) level.
You can see ODBC dsn's from > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data
Source
You can see JDBC datasouces from CFADMIN>Data & Services>Data Sources
In CFADMIN you can configure a datasource (not JDBC) that points to a Windows
DSN but using the "ODBC Socket" driver when initially creating the datasource.

Re: ODBC\JDBC on same server
Dear HTH,
Thank you for a great answer! I must admit I'm disappointed because it means
I no longer can rely on the Microsoft ODCB capability to tell me honestly about
all dns's on a given server. With my luck, next year, someone will come out
with a KDBC, and I'll need to check three programs to see the dsn's installed
on a given server!
Thanks,
Bill
