What happens if you select OVERPRINT PREVIEW under VIEW in InDesign and
then under ADVANCED in Acrobat 6 or 7 full versions?

Overprint Preview looks normal in InDesign. Then I export it and the PDF has the chunks of text missing; selecting or deselecting Overprint Preview in Acrobat doesn't change that.
