    Default offending error 'ter'

    man, I'm really upset, here.... just lost 3 full days of work...

    Every Illustrator document that I've saved in the last couple days has become corrupt, and returns that 'ter' error when I try to open.

    This has happened in the past, and I've fixed them using the "help" file on this site:

    <http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/31c66.htm>

    however, now, this is of no use, as the "enableContentRecovery" line doesn't even exist in the recovered "text file"...

    Contrary to the supposed cause of the error, I can rest assured that I've never used the "wheelchair access" symbol.

    If anyone has any thoughts as to how I might fix this, it would save me many hours of recreating.

    thank you

    Jason,

    It's not using the Access symbol that's the problem. You need to open your Illustrator Startup-CMYK and -RGB files from the PlugIns folder and delete the symbol from those files and then save them. Somehow these symbols create a glich which causes the record to end in the wrong place. Have you tried Placing the bad file in a new file? Also the enableContentRecovery line is in your AI10 preferences file not the bad file. You have to open the Preferences file in a text editor, make the change and save it. Then procede as described in the TechDocs. This is also described in the FAQs.

    Hi Larry,

    Thanks for getting back to me... I apologize, in my frenzy this morning, and since I've done this a handful of times before, I just skipped ahead in that doc, thinking I had the procedure "memorized".... thank you for "refreshing" my memory, as this has, indeed, worked..... whew!

    Although, several months ago, when I first encountered the problem, I did go and delete the wheelchair access symbol from both those files. (just checked again, and it's definitely not there in either file.) However this problem still happens from time to time

    I'm almost positive it happens when i copy text from either the web, or something like a "Microsoft Word" Document (originally created on a PC) into Illustrator on the Mac.

    Any thoughts as to why that might be? Of course, the obvious solution would be "don't do that"... but from time to time, if a writer gives me copy for a large project, it seems silly to "re-key" everything in Illustrator.

    again, many thanks
