Offering music files that cannot be copied
Hi,
I want to make available a few music tracks on the website I am building but I
don?t want the user to be able to copy the files. What is the most effective
and economical way to achieve this, bearing in mind I am only talking about 4-6
songs? Having read a little about Flash Communication Server to stream mp3?s
it seems a bit like ?using a sledge hammer to crack a nut? as it offers so many
capabilities that I would not need and it is very expensive. Also I?m finding
it hard to understand exactly how it all works in simple language.
Is there some kind of ?copy protect? software that will do the job without the
user having to install any player on their computer?
My site is built in Dreamweaver but I have Flash and intend to create a small
jukebox player so the user controls playback etc.
I know this is not a Flash Comm Server specific topic but I hope someone will
know a way.
Many Thanks,
Steve.

Re: Offering music files that cannot be copied
There is no way to stop someone from copying or re-recording a sound file, regardless of how it is streamed or served. Don't let Macromedia's marketing fool you into a false sense of security.

Re: Offering music files that cannot be copied
well if you use flash-com the advantage is the music does not get cache'd on
the users computer unlike using a progressive stream which downloads it.....
also theres another few cool features like access to ID3 tags of the
music...... it is pretty expensive for such a small task though.... but you can
just get some flashcom hosting..... the user can always record it through his
soundcard on the fly as it streams.....which i think is what Hawk is talking
about... by I don't think the quality would be great after doing that. JB
