Office 2003 setup error
Not sure if this is the right place for this, but has anyone run into this?

This is on the Windows Vista build 5308. I'm an MSDN subscriber, so it's

Re: Office 2003 setup error
Right, this is Office Professional 2003. I am using the MSDN version as
well with Office.
I'll try one my volume license w/ SP1 versions too and see if there is any
difference.

Re: Office 2003 setup error
You said the error occurred at the end of installation, did it complete the
install anyway? Are any of the Office applications at least working? What I
would do also, is disable UAP to make sure it does not happen again. Click
Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run > type in MSCONFIG > OK > Tools
(tab) > scroll down, select Disable UAP > Launch > restart Windows Vista,
and re-attempt installation.

Re: Office 2003 setup error
Brad,
I have seen that, but seem to remember it was only on Windows x64 for 5308.
I think this is just a nicer version of previous Windows resource protection
errors. Usually this does not affect the app as long as the setup program
doesn't have a hard failure on this.
For me office 2003 works just fine after this...are you having issues with
the product?

Re: Office 2003 setup error
Actually after the error it rolls back the install. It gets installed, but
I can never use it after I acknowledge the error since it uninstalls itself.

Re: Office 2003 setup error
Man, I thought I had it since after I disabled UAP and rebooted some stuff
started up (Windows Mobile) that hadn't before. I tried the install again,
but the same error comes up. Just for grins, I tried installing B1 of
Office 2007 but I get the same error message.
This happened before when I first installed this build to my system. Both
Office versions, same error, same machine, same build, BUT different Vista
5308 discs...
This is drving me nuts, I'm trying to use Vista as my main OS, but without
Outlook I can't do my job! Hopefully the TR of Office 2007 will work, but
who knows when that will be out!

Re: Office 2003 setup error
Another thing is that if I don't click OK on the error message, Office seems
fully functional. I was able to open Word and it didn't error out. I tried
killing the setup process, but the install still rolls back. It doesn't
make a lot of sense that everyone is able to install this except for me.
I'm wondering if there is something I need to turn off or reinstall a
component? I've turned off Defender, UAP and I'm running as administrator
as well.
If anyone comes up with anything I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Brad

Re: Office 2003 setup error
So to let everyone know, I replaced my drive today and reinstalled Vista,
etc. Everything seems way faster, more responsive and best of all I was
able to install Office 2003 without a problem. I guess my drive was in
pretty bad shape. I ended up looking through Event logs last night and
found numerous ones that told me the drive had a bad block, NTFS errors
telling me the file system was corrupt.
Finally I'm up and running!
Thanks to everyone who tried to help me troubleshoot this!

"Error 1935: An error occured during the installation of assembly component {303994BA-6487-47AE-AF1D-7AF6088EEBDB}. HRESULT: -2147024894."
After clicking 'OK' the installation rolls back.
Cause
This error occurs during the system update stage of the installation when the Microsoft XML Parser 4 installs. The same error should occur when trying to install the Microsoft XML Parser 4.0 by itself.
The cause can vary, but frequently may be caused by system files being used by another product.
Workaround
Follow the steps below to work around this error.
1.. Stop as many programs as possible. Some programs may be running in the background, such as adware or spyware. An example of such software is Adwatch. If possible, remove any adware from the machine.
2.. Stop as many Windows services as possible by navigating to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
3.. Verify that Internet Explorer 6.0 is installed. Verify that all Microsoft service packs and updates have been installed.
4.. Install Microsoft XML 4.0 SP2 before continuing. This can be downloaded by way of the link in the Related Information section below.
5.. Install the ESRI software again if Step 4 was successful.
