Re: Oh, no - Preferences file is currupted.
You use the Help menu and type "preferences" into the Search field and then you read the article:
To restore all preferences and default settings
Which says:
To restore all preferences and default settings
Do one of the following:
(Windows) Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete your preference files.
(Mac OS) While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete your preference files.
Note: Custom glyph sets are deleted when you reset InDesign’s preferences and defaults. If you have created custom glyph sets, make a backup copy of your InDesign SavedData file first. For information about creating custom glyph sets, see To create a glyph set.

Thanks mate.
I take it you dont and will never work for adobe customer services.
But your help was great.

Chris: I know this issue was urgent to you but when you see the same inquiry about something basic for the 100th time…
I remember once seeing someone ask where the command key was. Got a good laugh out of that one.

Re: Oh, no - Preferences file is currupted.
Chris,
Not only did I tell you the answer to your question, but I introduced you to a marvelous way to find the answer to countless other questions.
And you took offence?
Indeed, I could never work for a customer services department because they have to deal with so many people who don't even know which end of a computer to blow down, and I just don't have the patience to do that myself.
Perhap you'd be having a happier day if nobody had bothered to answer your question that, as Richard points out, is asked here so many times every week that a search of the forum would also have found the answer more quickly than posting the question again.
Ah, maybe not, I did give you the answer inside of three minutes.

Re: Oh, no - Preferences file is currupted.
This is a user forum, others here are only users just like yourself. An occassional Adobe employee may drop by on their own free time, but keep in mind we are not tech support or customer service.

Re: Oh, no - Preferences file is currupted.
As Ken said, this is a User to User forum. And of course, no fellow user is under any obligation with you or any other poster. I very much doubt you would have got from a paid service the same service you did in here within three minutes for free.
Next time you have a question, please start by checking if the question has already been asked and answered before. If it has been asked and answered many times and you post it anyway, you won't be entitled to a refund if you are not satisfied with the response you get.

I like the one about the guy who called customer service because his computer would not start up, during a power outage.
