Re: OK, what am I missing here about movies?
Well, Adobe might as well close up shop on whatever department is responsible for the "interactive" media portion of Acrobat.
I've had pretty much nothing but problems just trying to keep up with what I need to know to create fully operational documents for Windows users.
You can blame Microsoft all you want, but they don't make Acrobat.
Oh, you sure can view embedded quicktime in Windows - if you have the user open quicktime player and change default prefs.
Really, now, what happened to Acrobat? Its purpose was supposedly to allow a user to create a document that anyone could view with Acrobat Viewer. Each update seems not only to make the process more complicated (and, thus, harder) but seems to cripple the app in some way.
Seriously - if a Mac user is creating a distributable CD containing a PDF, who does Adobe think the viewing audience is?
Well, mostly, it's PC users, and I can't help but feel Adobe is wrist-slapping the cross-platform handshake.
Yeah, I can create an interactive document. But apparently, the interactive abilities of Acrobat are left withering.
You can bet that if there were serious competition these issues would be resolved. There isn't, and I bet they won't be.
This is NONSENSE.

Re: OK, what am I missing here about movies?
There is a new Plugin from a company called Flip4Mac that allows windoze media player files to be played on a mac using quicktime. They also have other MediaPlayer products as well. "for now" They can not deal with Files using DRM (Digital Right Management) But I expect they are atleast working the ability to play them.

Re: OK, what am I missing here about movies?
Yup. Tried it.
My recommendation? DON'T.
Why? It fully trashed my system with the somewhat-well-known "none of the Apple apps will start" symptom.
Except... trying to fix permissions wouldn't run either. Diskwarrior did nothing. Trashing all the usual prefs did nothing.
Finally, after removing all the Flip4Mac stuff, my system ran like nothing had happend.
No thanks.
