Open/Import Freehand *.FH10 in Illustr. 10.0 ??

I was having the same trouble, I think most of the problem was with the way Illustrator references fonts. Try to open a simple file with no text, save from Freehand as native file (.fh10) or save as Freehand 9 (.fh9) and try to open in Illustrator. I save from Freehand 9 everyday now and open in Illi so I know this should work. [I also have Freehand 10 and MX but have not tried those, they came out after Illustrator 10]. My fix was to follow the instructions on this forum - do a search for "Change the default font (Illustrator 10 and CS)" follow instructions carefully and change font to one of the fonts in your C:\Windows\fonts folder, something used in your Freehand file. Also search for "Illustrator 10 won't read fonts" and follow instructions to delete the "adobefnt*.lst and the hidden aiprefs files.
