    Default Re: Open/Import Freehand *.FH10 in Illustr. 10.0 ??

    Hi Matthias,
I was having the same trouble, I think most of the problem was with the way Illustrator references fonts. Try to open a simple file with no text, save from Freehand as native file (.fh10) or save as Freehand 9 (.fh9) and try to open in Illustrator. I save from Freehand 9 everyday now and open in Illi so I know this should work. [I also have Freehand 10 and MX but have not tried those, they came out after Illustrator 10]. My fix was to follow the instructions on this forum - do a search for "Change the default font (Illustrator 10 and CS)" follow instructions carefully and change font to one of the fonts in your C:\Windows\fonts folder, something used in your Freehand file. Also search for "Illustrator 10 won't read fonts" and follow instructions to delete the "adobefnt*.lst and the hidden aiprefs files. Other useful topics on this forum: "Illustrator 10 won't read fonts", "Font Problem with Arial", "Making Illustrator pull fonts from two different folders???", "Illustrator not recognizing fonts", "Problems with font folder, font file ill not read in Illustrator", and "Opening Freehand files (WIN) in Illustrator 10 (WIN)". The last one was my own plea for help. If any of this helps and you finally get to open the Freehand file in Illustrator you may also need to search for the topic "Adjusting Text Container" (I did anyway). Good Luck
