Open Recent
I'm not seeing the Open Recent option in the File menu anymore.
I first noticed this in ID then in Acrobat. What could be causing this problem? The only software I remember installing just before this problem started was Tweak UI from Microsoft.
Note: I am on a WinXP SP1 machine.

Re: Open Recent
I was fiddling around in Tweak UI just now and there is a Maintain document history in the "Explorer" area.
The description says:
The maintain document history check-box enables the tracking of recently-opened document on the Start menu and on the File menu of many applications. (Note that some applications do not respect this setting.)
This is a per-user setting.
---end of description
The check box is already enabled. Just for the heck of it, I un-checked it, hit apply, checked it again and hit apply again.
That didn't work. I Closed ID, re-started it and opened some files, made some changes and saved, closed ID again, re-started it and the Open Recent is still not there.
What gives?

Gabe,
Search the forum and you will find this has been chronicled fully.

Re: Open Recent
Bob and Dave say Tweak UI is the culprit but there was nothing specific that I could find that tells me what to change.
Ken Grace said: There has been discussion here before which
indicates that a setting in Tweak UI prevents recent files from being
displayed. I'm not sure of the exact setting, but there are checkboxes under the Paranoia tab to clear various history files at log on. You could search the forum for Tweak UI.
I'm off to the Tweakers forum.
I hope I find something.

Re: Open Recent
Gabe,
It's been a while so I don't remember the specifics, but I'm pretty sure it had something to do with that setting you were using in Tweak UI.

Re: Open Recent
Maybe it doesn't because you can see I've tried everything but a system re-boot to see if that setting had something to do with it. There must be something I've overlooked (plus I have not had a single drop of coffee yet) :(

Re: Open Recent
A reboot would be necessary after changing tweaks.

Re: Open Recent
I don't have the XP version of Tweak UI to hand, but in the Win2000 version
there is a 'paranoia' tab which lists options to clear a whole load of
things at log on. The first in the list is Clear Document History. As this
is an 'on logon' operation, you obviously have to log on or re-boot for your
selection to be activated (unless you press the 'Clear Selected Items Now'
button.

Re: Open Recent
Thanks Ken, I got it fixed after the re-boot. I didn't want to re-boot because I was in the middle of doing some things. I had Acrobat, Draw, PM, ID, Word, Notepad, Outlook, WMP, and Excel open at the same time.
Had to save my work on everything before I did a re-boot which was a little bit of an inconvenience but the re-boot did the trick.
Thanks all!

Re: Open Recent
The maintain document history check-box enables the tracking of recently-opened
document on the Start menu and on the File menu of many applications.
(Note that some applications do not respect this setting.)
Note that almost no other application seems to have any respect at all for that setting.
I reported this, here, on May 19, 2003, in hopes that InDesign 3 would fix the thing--that was the only reason I joined the forum. I had found the answer a couple of years earlier, and assumed that somebody else would eventually find it, too.
Now I'm stuck in the Photoshop Lounge; that was quite a price to pay, for trying to be helpful.

If you ever find a SINGLE app other than ID that honors it, let us know. :-)

Re: Open Recent
There was a shareware text editor a few years ago that did it, but they fixed it.
