Re: Opening bitmap files
Alan,
How large is the file size of the BMPs that you right-clicked to Save As from the Web show up in an Explorer file window? Can you open them in the Paint program that came with Windows? (Programs> Accessories> Paint). If you can open them in Microsoft Paint, can you then resave them and open them in Photoshop?

Re: Opening bitmap files
Burton, thanks for the reply.
In the web page they show up as JPEGs and can be saved as that on other computers and opened up in Photoshop just fine. These files are 58K in JPEG and 1.4M in bitmap when they are saved.
I can open the bitmap files in paint and save them but can not open them in Photoshop.
It seems Windows adds some other junk to the file when saved as bitmap and then it is not readable by Photoshop. My computer doesn't even give me an option of saving the file as a JPEG when using IE. Somewhere there must be a master setting in Windows that can be set back. any ideas?

Re: Opening bitmap files
Photoshop 5.5 could not read 16 bit BMP images, vertically flipped BMP images, or bitfield encoded BMP images.

Re: Opening bitmap files
Alan,
If you mean when your in Internet Explorer, your options for file type are BMP, then there's a fix routine for it at the Microsoft Knowledge base.
