Default Opening files from Outlook Express attachments

When I open files directly for Outlook Express, Illustrator defaults to Version 9 even if I have Version 10 open. I prefer to work in Version 10. In order to deal with files that I receive in Outlook Express therefore I must save the files first then open them from withing version 10. There must be a way to tell AI to open version 10 rather than 9 in a default situation. I tried removing Version 9, but had to reinstall it as my Version 10 is an upgrade and many of the features were missing when I removed Version 9.

    Amy,

That's not right. Upgrades are complete applications in their own right and
do not rely on any components of any previous version.

I suggest you uninstall both, and then re-install just V.10. It will ask you
to insert the v.9 CD as proof of qualification for the upgrade during the
    installation.
