Opening Newer EPS Files
I was just sent an EPS file that neither Illustrator 5.5 nor Photoshop 4.0 can open. It seems that it can only be opened by Illustrator CS (I downloaded the tryout version).
I tried Graphic Converter with EPStoPICT, epsMover, and epsConverter. No helped.
1) Why won't these progams open this file?
2) What shareware/freeware utility can I use to convert the file to something that these programs WILL open? (Illustrator CS doesn't seem to have a way to save in an older format.)
Best regards,
Don Morris

Re: Opening Newer EPS Files
Yeah, I found the export option after I posted this, but even after saving it as an Illustrator 3 file, I couldn't get it to open.
The person that sent the images (he's using Illustrator 10 Mac) saved them again as 5.5, then as 4.0 before they would open, but even then two of the images would not open in Photoshop and Illustrator gave me a partial image with a "Object description is garbled or missing" error.
Guess I'll have to pony up for CS.

Re: Opening Newer EPS Files
EPS files from Legacy Illustrator should have no problems. If they are generic EPSs then AI version number doesn't matter.
I can only think... how are the files being sent to you? Maybe they are being corrupted in transit?
