Optional Region leaves white space

Default Optional Region leaves white space

I have a number of optional regions in a template, basically allows a user to
have up to 10 items per month for each month of the year two years in a row.
The problem is that if a user hasn't selected anything for, say, January or
February of either year, then adds something in March, when the item appears on
the page there is a huge amount of white space above the item they've added
where contribute seems to be leaving space for the 20 items that the user has
    not selected to show!!

is it possible to remove this space or is there a better way to do what I'm
    trying?

The whitespace shows at design time, but not at run time, right?

no the other way round. At run time it leaves the space. Macromedia support said it had something to do with the editable regions being within <TR> tags but i've moved them round and still no joy.

Who at tech support told you that?

When the option regions are evaluated, and found to be 'false', DW *does*
leave whitespace in the code, but this should not leave corresponding space
in the browser rendering of the page. You're saying that it *does* leave
    that space in the browser?

I'm not sure but it's now been escalated to someone else. They've also said the
same thing. Something to do with the <TR> tags not being inside the template
    begin if statements.

Yes it does leave the white space. They've told me to use optional regions
instead but haven't looked into them yet.

    <sigh>

Show me the code for one of these optional regions (from your template) and
    its context, please.

It sounds like the two of you are talking past each other.

I'm still not clear on the problem, though - is the whitespace affecting the
    browser display?

if the user selects 1 event (theres a max of 10) in Jan (theres 12 months)
then I publish the page, IE, Dreamweaver, Contribute or all 3 are leaving the
space for the other 9 events for Jan and the space for the other 11 months. so
what you get is one event and a whole heap of scrolling empty page!

This prob. isn't the best way to do this but anyway. You might want to cut the
code into something else to make it more readable!

sorry to answer your other question, the problem isn't effecting the browser
display as such, it's just the people who have asked for this don't want the
white space and scrolling for no reason, which is understandable as it doesn't
    look good.

That's a FOL, or 'fact of life' I'm afraid.

As long as it doesn't affect the browser's rendering of the page, I don't
think there will be much motivation to fix it....
