Default OS 9.0.2 mystery

Daughter was "helping" grandma with grandma's OS 9 notebook - changing
this and changing that so it would "work better."

Now grandpa who has been using Macs for 17 years got called to unravel
kinks in the "working better." The kinks are in the basic "finder"
commands. One is that the "File" command no longer shows an option to
create an alias. Another is in the "Special" command that no longer has
options for "Sleep" or "Restart."

Before grandpa does something drastic like deleting daughter or
reinstalling the OS. Does anyone have any ideas?

A thousand thanks, and pardon for my multiple group postings since I
don't know which is appropriate.

Grumpy which is now an alias for Grandpa

Sounds like the Simple Finder was enabled. You should be able to change
this in the Finder's preferences.

9.0.4 has another set of problems. Better to go to at least 9.1.

It costs money only for Nubus based PowerMacs -- where you have buy a
9.1 CD. Otherwise it is a free update. Available from:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75103

9.2.1 is a free update as well, but requires that 9.1 is installed.
Similarly, 9.2.2 is also a free update, but requires that 9.2.1 is
installed.

Now you might want to look into setting up Multiple Users and password
protecting the iMac from the daughter.

Now that SimpleFinder is off, you might want to update from OS 9.0.2 to 9.1.

OS 9.0.x has quite a number of significant bugs, some of them (like the "Will
ot delete temporary files" bug) very serious. OS 9.1 fixes many bugs and is a
free update from Apple's Web site.
