page (IE, OmniWeb, Opera, whatever), the system generates an enormous
amount of Postscript output to the printer. Probably something on the order
of 80MB or more even for simple pages.
Even the Google homepage, which is about as simple as they come these days,
takes 2-3 minutes to print on my system (867MHz G4 connected to HP LJ5M
printer via 100Mb Ethernet).

You're quite right--thanks for the tip. I tried printing the same map
page with Explorer, and it printed in a reasonable amount of time.
