    Hi Russ,

Macromedia Fireworks newsgroup may not be the best source for that
particular information. You may want to try posting your inquiries on a
    Adobe PhotoShop Newsgroup.

I stopped upgrading PS at 3.0. To make a clipping path in 3.0:

    1. Draw the path.

    2. In the Paths palette, save the path.

    3. In the Paths palette, choose Clipping Paths. Select the path you just
saved from the pop-up and specify the flatness.

    4. Save the document as EPS. No other format will work.

One small addition to this quite correct recepie - check the "Clipping Path"
options when exporting to EPS. Other than that, some modern versions of,
say, TIFF allow paths also, but you'd better stay away from it - it's not
guaranteed to work with all applications. EPS is your best choice, as Lanny
    said.

Keep in mind, such an image (EPS with clipping path) is only good for
inserting the image into some page layout program. It's not as suitable for
    any further editing.

What as to "how to draw a path", you should be seeing a variety of
path-drawing tools in PS toolbox. Not as many as in FW (FW is much close to
professional vector app about that) but with some trial and error you should
be able to understand them :-)

    Hi Russ:

You can export a clipping path from Photoshop as an Illustrator file and
then import that into Fireworks to use as a vector mask.
