OT: Red "X" images while surfing web in IE 6 - Macromedia Dreamweaver

Hey all- Sorry bout the off topic, but this is driving me crazy and I've no idea what the cause is. On some of the sites I visit using IE 6, I've been seeing a lot of red x's - images aren't loading properly. When I refresh the page, the images then appear. I've tried playing with the cache settings in IE, but nothing seems to help. Anyone else ever experience this? Is there something else I should look for other than IE settings? Hey all-
Sorry bout the off topic, but this is driving me crazy and I've no idea what
the cause is. On some of the sites I visit using IE 6, I've been seeing a
lot of red x's - images aren't loading properly. When I refresh the page,
the images then appear. I've tried playing with the cache settings in IE,
    but nothing seems to help.

Anyone else ever experience this? Is there something else I should look for
other than IE settings? Right now under the temp internet files setting, I
have IE checking for newer version Automatically, and a temp folder size of
    150 mb.

Any ideas helpful. This just started happening about 1 week ago - before
that all was well. Also, I am connected to the net via SBC DSL, and am using
    a 2Wire router.

I've been experiencing it for about a year now - nothing I have done seems
to fix it. And since IE is integrated into windows, even uninstalling and
reinstalling didn't help - learned to live with it.

More recently, Lycos is taking over all my searches (like Side-step does
when I search for airline fares, but I installed that), and I don't know
where to look to get rid of it.

Let me know if you figure something out.

Yeah - strange it is. I had it roughly a year ago, and did a clean install
of Windows 2000 (seems I do this about every six months) and it went away.
I'm wondering if it's some kind of cache bug.

    Thanks.

I did wonder about AV software. I am running Norton AV 2003 Pro, but do not
have auto-protect enabled. I see that something called NPROTECT.EXE is
running - which is prob. related to the email scanning which I DO have
enabled. My understanding is that with the incoming/outgoing mail scanning,
Norton sets up a proxy to which the mail goes through before being sent - it
is scanned there. Also running from Norton are: ccApp and ccRegVfy - have no
    idea what these provide for.

It's always something - especially when IE is so damn tightly integrated
    with the OS!

You've probably covered this base, but I'll mention it anyway. I
still had problems -- after I _thought_ I had turned off all AV
processes -- until I used MSCONFIG to disable startup of the
    culprits.
