OT to Coen
Coen,
I had been mentally pronouncing your name the way I would say "Cohen" in
the U.S. A Brit friend who knows some Dutch (I had passed on to him
your "spam" post) says it should be pronounced the way we would say
"coon" (a cute little animal with a robber's mask--short for racoon--one
sees unfortunately all too frequently as road kill here in Sacramento)
So, how do you say your name?

Re: OT to Coen
Bonnie:
My name is pronounced "in Holland" as coon just as you would pronounce
"spoon" but replace the "sp" with "c".
I have found that during my travels in the States many Americans 'think'
they cannot pronounce certain foreign words - although they CAN. You
just need to provide them with the right verbal replacements. They
couldn't pronounce my name - but when I said "spoon" they suddenly
could. "Hey, no problem ma'am, I always knew you could do it" I usually
reply then.
Although "coon" (coen) is fine by me if that is what you want to call me
in the U.S., I prefer to be called "Cohen" since that is what I am used
to since some tourleader from Ohio back in 1997 called me that way. But
I would react to "Coen" just the same. It is really a matter of personal
preference and (I guess) in which coutry my bed is located at any given
time. ;-)
I have two questions for you now:
1) I am at a miss why you posted this on the forum, although it is okay
with me of course. It was the first thought that hit me when I saw this
"OT: to Coen"... ;-)
2) May I ask what your Brit friend found interesting about my SPAM
thread? Just curious here, nothing personal.

Re: OT to Coen
While we're on the topic - what's with "Murray" anyway? I always thought
this was a Surname! But then - Summer Murray wouldn't be a fitting name
either...
Hmm, how about Coen Summers ? Yeah, I can see that printed on a book
sometime in the future; "Fireworks: The Powerhouse productivity suite,
by Coen Summers"....
I kinda like that! Can't we figure out something Murray? You have any
family that would be interested in this handsome (ahum..) young fellah?? ;-o
Oh, I can see it AAAALLLL before me! "Coen Summers, personally prepped
and trained by the infamous *MURRAY* Summers - now enters the Webarena.
Dis is sure gonna be a topnotch fellah, a force to be reckoned with in
the designcommunity".... ;-)

when they corresponded with you, and most don't speak Dutch. I speak
German (and some French, and some slight Italian, Spanish, and
Hungarian), and it's interesting to try to read a Dutch newspaper,
because with German and English, you can **almost** read it!
I shared it with him because I thought it was funny, and so did he!> 2) May I ask what your Brit friend found interesting about my SPAM

about you (i.e., enthusiastic Fireworks proponent, Dutch, etc.) he
pointed out to me that I was pronouncing your name wrong.

Re: OT to Coen
Yeah, phoning is fun - nice to get to know people on a personal basis
instead of the ever existing text boundaries.
