Overprint preview and hidden characters
I'm finding that turning on overprint preview kills the ability to view
hidden characters in IDCS 3.0.1.
I don't recall seeing this in the past but I don't always use either
feature. Can anyone verify this behavior?
FWIW, I'm on WinXP Pro.

Re: Overprint preview and hidden characters
Yes, that happens on a Mac, too. I guess the reason is that the preview is intended to show you what prints, and they don't print.
Yep, objects marked as non-printing also disappear when you turn on that preview.

Re: Overprint preview and hidden characters
But guides don't disappear and they're not going to print, either.
Invisible characters should be treated just like guides for preview
purposes.
While not a horrible thing, it should be fixed.

Re: Overprint preview and hidden characters
I just opened up ID 2.0.2 for kicks and the behavior there is what I
would expect. Even with overprint preview on, the invisible characters
stay on screen.
Could someone who hasn't patched to 3.0.1 check to see what happens in
CS 3.0?

Fixed which way, though? IMO I'd prefer that the guides disappear as
well, rather than making non-printing elements visible. (I treat
overprint preview like a print preview, so I like that non-printing
items disappear. I always viewed the guides as a separate type of
element, not part of the document that is either printing or
non-printing, so it doesn't bother me that they stay on screen.)

Re: Overprint preview and hidden characters
If it weren't for the regular preview, I'd agree.
But just hit the w key and you can see EXACTLY how it's going to print.
No guides, no bleeds, no nothing. Of course, CS has added bleed and slug
previews, but that's still only going to show you objects that will print.
