Overriding Hyperlinks with Style sheets
I cannot for the life of me get rid of Hyperlinks imported from MS Word, except manually. Style sheets will not override them, even with the Alt key. Even if I strip them out before I use the style sheet, it still will not change to the selected style. Any thoughts?

Re: Overriding Hyperlinks with Style sheets
The only way I have found to get rid of hyperlinks is to edit them in MS
Word; right-click and select "Remove hyperlink" from the pop-up menu.
And try to remember to do this _before_ applying a lot of formatting in
Indy! I almost never do ... <g>

Re: Overriding Hyperlinks with Style sheets
Thanks. I was trying to avoid Word...Just wish I could get people to turn off that automatic feature. Why does Gates assume that everytime we type an address we want a link! Boogers.

Re: Overriding Hyperlinks with Style sheets
Aw, c'mon - tell us how you _really_ feel! <g> I hate to use Word too - but
I open every Word file, delete hyperlinks, delete extra returns, tabs and
spaces, and save as RTF. It saves a lot of headaches later. Until Indy CS,
it was easier (for me) to do this stuff in Word than on the page. Now,
thanks to Story editor and InCopy, it's just as easy in Indy. But old habits
die hard.

Re: Overriding Hyperlinks with Style sheets
I don't dare tell you how I really feel, what with the "Patriot Act", etc. but it does sound like I should go ahead and upgrade to CS. With PageMaker I always did all that right in the PM document, but these hyperlinks have become problematic. I'll check out the "InCopy". Thanks for the tip.

Re: Overriding Hyperlinks with Style sheets
When you place a word doc into InDesign, if you switch on the Show Import Options, you have the option of stripping the Word formatting, including hyperlinks.
Likewise, if you copy n paste text, you have a similar optional switch in the Preferences > General panel.

True; but I need to maintain my customers' bolding and italicising, and if I
do that, I lose that formatting as well, right?

Re: Overriding Hyperlinks with Style sheets
I did try stripping out formating in the import options box, but along with the hyperlinks went all my bolds and itals...so that was a $50 fix for a $5 problem! But thanks, anyway

Re: Overriding Hyperlinks with Style sheets
Have you taken a look at the Hyperlinks palette (under Interactive in CS). You can select one or more hyperlinks, then either delete the hyperlink (which leaves the character style, so you can still define the style), or you can delete the box, which leaves the hyperlink in case you make a pdf, and also leaves the character style. Much better in my opinion than brute force!

Re: Overriding Hyperlinks with Style sheets
Well, no, of course not - I work in print so there's nothing in Interactive
for me, right?!?!? <g> Thanks for the tip!
