if i switch printers [from our color to our laser] and then switch back, all my settings dissapear. if you switch printers, it seems to be a good idea to quit and relaunch illustrator. then my page set-up/tiling on existing docs stays. i haven't figured out a way to save and % set-ups, those vanish every time.

I used to have the same problem (I have since upgraded to CS), but the only thing I found I could do is before going to print, I got in the habit of resetting the page setup. Annoying, yes, but effective.
