Default Page Number - style i, ii, iii

I have successfully number a section of my document using the Roman numerals and have added a footer to print the page number, but the printed number is numeric.

All help indicates that I should be able to print in different style.

    Any suggestions??

You can't add a page number in the footer in the Roman Numeral style using Add Headers & Footers.

I presume you mean that you have added the page numbers from the Pages tab? This is not the same thing. This is for the navigation of the PDF on screen.

I guess you would have to use JavaScript or a 3rd party plug-in to add numerals as a footer.

In the Adobe help on Page Numbering it shows an example of printed page numbers using Roman numerals.

It also provides instructions for numbering groups of pages with different styles and then states "You can physically add new page numbers to a PDF document using header and footer feature".

What do I not understand about this information?

From the help file on numbering pages:

You may notice that the page numbers on the document pages do not always match the page numbers that appear below the page thumbnails and in the status bar.

So as I said above, this is for navigating the PDF on screen. You can renumber the page numbers as they appear on screen to match those already appearing as text in the PDF.

Form the help file on adding Headers and Footers
To add a page number, choose a page number style from the menu, and click Insert. The page number is added to the highlighted box (right, left, or center).

Roman numerals are not an available style.

So Page numbers should be considered part of the electronic PDF. Header/Footers are text on a PDF.

I am not sure if this makes it any clearer. I certainly understand why it is confusing! The ideal is to add the page numbering in the original application.
