    Default Page #s in Footer - change the start number? How?

    I'd like the page numbers that appear in the footer to start at a number other than 1. I can see easily how to do this for the PDF pages (on the Pages tab), but I'd like to have the printed page numbers correspond with a specific index and TOC that was created.

    How? I can't seem to figure out how! :(

    Thanks!

    The easiest way is to correct the page numbers in the NATIVE file and re-PDF.

    I called Adobe, no go on the request. They agree that there should be a way to do it. :(

    Thank you Sandee, I was about to call Adobe about this and now I don't have to.

    And a general comment to all,
    They really need to add this function, I'll email their comments box.

    In some instances, the native file will not accomodate what you want to do with page numbering. For instance as in my case, the native file is a huge Excel workbook, that is an 'appendix' to a large document (now in PDF). The Excel footer function will not let you specify what page number to start numbering at. Additionally, it doesn't seem to have the capability to put a portrait oriented footer on a page with a landscaped table/i.e. I want the table rotated landscape on a portrait page with the page # ing (and footer text) on the bottom of the portriat page.

    And now that I've discovered for sure that Adobe will not re-number the pages for the print version, I have no idea how I'm going to resolve this issue short of typing the page # into footer and apply to each individual PDF page... not good when you're looking at over 100 pages... wow.

    I found info at the Adobe acrobat Knowledge base
    <http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/2e37a.htm>

    [excerpt]
    Background information

    The Number Pages command in Acrobat 5.x allows you to adjust the page numbering that appears beneath page thumbnails and in the status bar, as well as in the Go To Page, Delete Pages, and Print dialog boxes. The command doesn't add numbers to PDF pages themselves. The feature to add page numbers is included in Acrobat 6.0.

    Using JavaScript to add page numbers
    The following instructions allow you to create a simple JavaScript file that adds the Acrobat Extras > Add Page Numbers command to the Tools menu. When you choose this command in a PDF file, page numbers are added to the bottom center of each page.

    Here is a fix to the page numbering problem. Not pretty but it does not involve Java Script. Add pages to the beginning of the doc, do your numbering then delete them. If you are trying to start on page 100, this probably is not a great solution, sorry. If you finally get it and have to edit pages, PDF the replacement, add the page number to it you want by using the custom box below page numbering then replace the page in your doc. Small work around until the real fix.
