Default Page tiling in Illustrator10 gets moved when picking Distiller as a printer

When trying to print to Acrobat Distiller, the page tiles in my file get shifted/moved and some get lost. My goal is to print each tile as a separate PDF file. Then I will combine them in Adobe Acrobat. Is there any solution to this problem? I am using WindowsXP, Illustrator 10.0.3. Adobe Acrobat 5.0.0.

    Michael,

Set your printer setup to Acrobat Distiller in "Document Setup > Printer Setup" first. Then you'll see the correct page tiling. Keep in mind that pages, defined in Distiller, have no margins and if your default printer is something else, the imageable area is different - the cause for shifting/moving tiles.

Default Re: Page tiling in Illustrator10 gets moved when picking Distiller as a printer

Boyan, thanks for the help. I have tried this, however it does not help. When I do this I lose tiles. I have artwork set up in 11x17 size tiles. On the top row there are 5 in a row, tiles are numbered 1 to 5. Then another row starts and I have 2 more, tiles are numbered 6 & 7. The artboard setup is 55.2" x 35.1". When I change to Distiller, tile number 1 moves to where number 6 was, and 7 becomes 2. The other tiles are missing. When I change the artboard size to 56"x36" and then change to distiller, it seems to work. The tiles shift a little but all I have to do is move them slightly to get them oriented correctly. I don't understand why making the artboard larger would make the tiles not move? Any ideas? Thanks

    Michael,
The base point for tiles is left bottom corner of the artwork. That's why they don't move when you change the artwork size. However, the content of your artwork moves because artwork sizes change from its center. I can suggest you to make Distiller your default printer to avoid such problems. It's a boring thing to adjust printer, tiling and page sizes every time you open the file. Ill CS is the first version which files "remember" printer settings.
Besides, do you use the page tool in the toolbox to move the page (and tiles) position inside the artwork?

Boyan, I have tried making the default printer Distiller, but the same thing happens. And yes I use the page tool to move the page tiles to the correct position. The above seems to work for now but it is a hassle to do this all the time.

    Thanks
