Default Pagemaker graphics "no show" in Indesign

I am very new to Indesign,I have CS, most of my work involves Photoshop. However I am trying to help a local university with the school catalog that they have designed in Pagemaker 6.5. They have done all the page layout work and I am to insert the images that we will be photographing and do the final preparation for press.

OK, now the problem. When opening the Pagemaker file I get the error: "Some of the images in the document were not placed as no filter is found for them. Links to these images are broken." There are also several other problems with parts of some of the pages being out of format but I can deal with that. After all my research I know to expect that. I need to know what to tell the person who is preparing the Pagemaker file to do so that I get the missing images. I know nothing about Pagemaker and am hoping one of you could help me out.

    Thanks in advance!

Your PageMaker person should give you not just the PageMaker pub for you to open into InDesign, but should give you all the linked graphics in subfolder, as well. They should do a Utilities > Plugins > Save for Service Provider to round up the pub and linked files into one bag. If the links dialog box in PageMaker reports all graphics present, then the whole thing should do as well in InDesign. The only thing I can think of that InDesign wouldn't know what to do with is if the PageMaker person did a Paste Special or the like instead of a Place command.

Thank you so much Mike! I will give this information to the school and hopefully I will get a file with the information I need.
