PageMaker to InDesign - Pasteboard Issues - Adobe Indesign Windows

Hi all, I've just started at a company where they have been using PageMaker for many years to print the twice monthly paper. The problem is this... in PageMaker, when you stick something on the pasteboard it moves from page to page with you (which when laying out this particular paper is a MUST). I would love to switch over to InDesign CS2, but I have not figured out the solution to the pasteboard issue. Putting items on the master won't work, because I only need some items some of the time and sometimes only once or twice a year ...

Default PageMaker to InDesign - Pasteboard Issues

    Hi all,
I've just started at a company where they have been using PageMaker for many years to print the twice monthly paper.
The problem is this... in PageMaker, when you stick something on the pasteboard it moves from page to page with you (which when laying out this particular paper is a MUST). I would love to switch over to InDesign CS2, but I have not figured out the solution to the pasteboard issue. Putting items on the master won't work, because I only need some items some of the time and sometimes only once or twice a year (but don't want to have to import all the time). This is a very handy and time saving tool when using PageMaker, but, of course, there are many reasons why I would like to upgrade. Any suggestions?

    Shar,

InDesign's pasteboard borrows from QXP's metaphor; not alas PageMaker. What you want to do is normally handled by a gadget called a Library. File > New > Library creates a small palette-looking file that you can drag often used materials into. Think of it like a visual clipboard, maybe.

It never was a good idea in PageMaker to leave objects on the pasteboard, and I'm afraid you will have to get used to a new paradigm here.

As a rider to that, be careful if you do leave items on the pasteboard. The
pasteboard stays with the page, and I have found that deleting pages can
also delete the pasteboard items. I don't think this always happens, but it
    can be very unsettling.
